CBSE Postpones CTET September 2026 Exam; Registration Window Reopens for Candidates

NEW DELHI — The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially postponed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) September 2026 exam, which was originally scheduled for September 6, 2026. In conjunction with the postponement, the board has reopened the online application window to provide a second opportunity for eligible candidates to register.
Why Was the Exam Postponed?
According to the official public notice, the decision to reopen the registration window was made following a recent Supreme Court judgment. The court emphasized the necessity of affording eligible teachers a reasonable opportunity to comply with statutory requirements to acquire the prescribed Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualifications.
"In view of the aforesaid and in the larger interest of candidates, it has been decided to provide an opportunity to all eligible candidates who could not avail themselves of the earlier application window by opening the online application portal from 25.08.2026 to 01.09.2026," read the official CBSE notice.
The revised application portal is currently active and will remain open until September 1, 2026. The CBSE noted that candidates who have already successfully submitted their applications and paid the fees during the previous application window do not need to apply again.
Application Details and Exam Structure
Candidates wishing to apply can do so through the official CTET website at ctet.nic.in. The examination fee structure remains as follows:
