NEET 2024 Tie-Breaker Policy: Decoding the Rules

What is NEET full form? - Wisdom Overseas

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a highly competitive examination for aspiring medical students in India. With more than 25 lakh applicants, situations often arise where two or more candidates score the same marks. In such cases, the tie-breaker policy becomes crucial to determine their ranks and ensure fairness in admissions.

Revised NEET 2024 Tie-Breaking Policy

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the tie-breaking rules for NEET 2024 to streamline the process. Here’s how it works:

  1. Test-takers receiving better percentile scores or grades in Biology will be given priority.
  2. If the tie persists, the Chemistry percentile scores or grades will be considered.
  3. Next, the Physics percentile ratings or scores come into play.
  4. If still tied, the candidate who answered fewer questions incorrectly in the biology section will be ranked higher.
  5. Similarly, the percentage of inaccurate Chemistry responses will be used as a criterion.
  6. Finally, the Physics multiple-choice exam performance will be considered1.

Old NEET Tie-Breaking Policy

Interestingly, the previous tie-breaker policy relied on a lottery system using computer technology without human intervention. Under this old policy:

  1. Students with higher marks in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics were ranked first.
  2. If the tie persisted, a random draw of lots determined the final ranking.

Conclusion

The revised NEET 2024 tie-breaker policy aims to ensure transparency and fairness. Candidates should be aware of these rules to prepare effectively and understand how their performance will be evaluated in case of ties. Good luck to all NEET aspirants!
